FAQ: How does the Vivaldi's flexible clocking system work?

The Vivaldi Clock has two groups of word clock outputs that may be set to different frequencies – for example 44.1kHz and 48kHz.

The Vivaldi Upsampler and DAC have multiple word clock inputs, so that both units can be supplied with 44.1kHz and 48kHz from the Master Clock. An automatic Sync Mode selects whichever clock frequency is synchronous with the incoming data and both units multiply the word clock frequency as required to match the data rate.

The source equipment (e.g. a dCS Transport) must be connected to a suitable feed from the Clock as well.

Combined with our asynchronous USB and UPnP interfaces, Vivaldi automatically selects the right clock to match your music over a wide range of sample rates.
